“You don’t take a photograph, you make it.” – Ansel Adams
I had my first introduction to whales as a child. That might account for my fascination in them. I remember all the whales in our local museum but they are all plastic. The big thing that got me what that the whales have a hand inside their fins. What a puzzle that started. They swam and did not come onto land but had a hand inside the fins??? Questions and more questions arose and my fascination grew.

I would go on whale watching trips at any chance I got. I went to the local aquarium to see them up close. It just added to the fascination. I had even thought of becoming an oceanographer so I could look into them more. And with my love of photography - I could then capture them on film. But life had different plans and I chose a different career BUT the fascination continued.

These whales are a Mom and her baby. Got to see them on a whale watching trip to Brier Island, Nova Scotia. Baby put on quite a show and Mom was checking us out regularly.

I found this quote by Ansel Adams who was a fabulous black and white photographer. He has been quite an inspiration of mine so I thought I would share his viewpoint and my love of whales. Hope you enjoyed the story.
